MANAS MICROSYSTEMS – THE FLOW METERING WIZARDS

Mr. Shrikant Sahasrabudhe, MD, Manas Microsystems Private Limited

Pune-based Manas Microsystems Private Ltd. established in 1998, is the brainchild of Mr. Shrikant Sahasrabudhe, a graduate in Electronics Engineering. After his graduation, he took up a job in Advani-Oerlikon Pvt. Ltd. (now Ador Welding Ltd) and worked in AOPL. He then moved to Tata Electric Companies where again he was in R & D. Later he shifted to Semiconductors Ltd. In Product Application Section, and stayed till 1978. From ‘78-80 he worked as a freelance designer, developing import substitute products. From ‘80-98 he worked as a Director of Nishko Instruments, a company he founded in Pune. He relinguished this office in ‘98 to start Manas.

Burning desire
The fire in Mr. Sahasrabudhe to come out with revolutionary products, that too import substitutes which saved foreign exchange for the country, kept burning in him until he came out with an Electromagnetic Flow Meter of his own design which he launched in 2001. The product was a huge success. The company produced five meters in the 1st year, 20 meters in the 2nd year and 80 meters in the 3rd year. Since then there has been no looking back. Today, Manas manufactures over a thousand meters in a year and its EM meters are giving peak performance in a cross-section of the industry.

They are used in various applications like Water distribution, Sewage water treatment, effluent measurement, slurry and other viscous liquids measurement in various sectors. The specialty of these meters is they work equally well with low conductivity liquids and also at low velocity measurement, where others fail !

SROAT thought
Manas is basically in the field of flow metering using electromagnetic flow meters or orifice based flow metering systems like gas and steam flow meters. Its product range today covers Electromagnetic Flow Meters, Steam & Gas Flow Meters, BTU Meters, Mass Flow Integrators etc. For Steam & Gas Flow Meters, Manas is the Green Channel Supplier of Thermax. Every Electromagnetic Flow Meter from Manas is qualified under the acronym ‘SROAT’ which stands for Stable, Repeatable, Operable, Accurate, Technique. It also means a real “Source”. Manas also takes up turnkey jobs in the domain of metering. It has undertaken such jobs for Water Boards and Irrigation Departments of various states. Besides calibration, its services also include repair and reconditioning of flow meters of any make.

The company’s products are used in industries like food, sugar, distilleries, chemical, engineering, automobile, power, water treatment, water distribution and so on. Its customers include Thermax, L&T, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Dabur, MSST, Pepsi, Infosys, Raymond, Bajaj, Siemens, KSB, Essar, Reliance, etc. Export is a major thrust area for the company. Eager to serve: A riot of Electromagnetic Flow Meters waiting to be despatched

Looking back, looking forward
“Manas is geared to expand its facilities in the same premises. A 10,000 sq. ft edifice is coming up. Once this is completed, the R & D, Calibration Lab and the Projects Div. will be housed there. More machines will be added keeping the automation needs in view,” envisages Mr. Sahasrabudhe.

The company has a dedicated, committed and highly motivated team of people who always rise to the occasion. It has an open system where suggestions of every individual are considered for implementation if those lead to improvement in the process, product, functioning or image of the company.

A taskforce of well qualified and dedicated team of engineers groomed under the dynamic leadership of Mr.Sahasrabudhe, is behind the success of this company and its deliverables.

Mr. Sahasrabudhe recalls the most memorable day in his professional life: “It is the day when the first Electromagnetic Flow Meter of my own design was tested and it was found that it was working as per the specifications without changing anything.

Manas Flow Calibration Lab

The first meter was installed and became operational at INDAL, Belgaum who happened to be our first client. While expressing gratitude to them, I must not forget the kind of support we received from our clients, Thermax, Tata Motors and Walchandnagar Industries in those hard formative years of my company.” According to Mr. Sahasrabudhe, the industry is quite conscious about the quality and accuracy of flow measurement. The scope for this business is tremendous in the wake of burgeoning industrial activities, he opines.

Armed with a full-fledged R&D, a state-of-the-art manufacturing set-up, backed by a calibration lab, a wide range of performance proven products, a deep rooted technology and knowledge base, a wide service network coupled with customer orientation, Manas is fully geared to meet the emerging challenges in the sphere of flow metering within and beyond our shores. So to say, the ‘flow metering wizards’ have challenges beyond measure!
